Community Outreach
community outreach
The emphasis of the Es Mejor Saber campaign has been placed on reaching the Latino community. The campaign's intent is to bring those populations into testing, to reach those who are positive before their illness becomes life-threatening, and to engage them in treatment. Southwest CARE Center participates in many outreach activities throughout the year. The largest event is Pride, which is held in June of each year. Volunteers may be asked to help with the setup and teardown of the testing tents or to distribute materials throughout the crowd. There will also be opportunities to participate in the building of the annual Pride Parade float.

AID & Comfort
aid and comfort
The AID & Comfort Fund was founded in 1989 to provide assistance for those living with HIV and AIDS. AID & Comfort pays for medications, diagnostic testing, doctor visits, insurance and medication co-pays, and other eligible healthcare. Private donations and community involvement are necessary for us to continue our good work. We have opportunities to participate in many fund-raising events in the Santa Fe community, such as the Annual AID & Comfort Gala, Kentucky Derby Day, and the Closet Ball, to name a few. Volunteers may be asked to assist with the silent auction process, registration, underwriting, decorations, and food and beverage solicitation.

client services
Client Services
Occasionally, a situation will arise in which a client in poor health may need assistance with daily activities, such as cleaning, laundry, yard work, grocery shopping, or meal preparation. Case Management provides patients with many support services, but, unfortunately, many clients do not qualify for government programs and may need additional assistance in order to stay in the comfort of their home.

world aids day
World AIDS Day
Each year Southwest CARE Center participates in a community event to commemorate the lives lost to HIV & AIDS. Volunteers may be asked to assist with the organization of this event.
