Childhood Immunizations

All parents want to give their child the best start in life. Immunizations are commonly regarded as the most important public health achievement of the last century. They have saved lives, prevented disease, and protected millions from lifelong disability. Only a few decades ago, many of the diseases which can be prevented by childhood immunizations resulted in hospitalization, death, or long-term health complications.

The majority of childhood immunizations are completed during the first six years. During this time, many immunizations are administered multiple times in different combinations. An immunization record card documents all vaccinations a patient receives over a lifetime. Most states require a complete record prior to a child starting school, and schools usually request updated proof of vaccination on a regular basis.
