Community Outreach & Prevention

Southwest CARE Center offers programs and services to decrease the transmission of HIV and Hepatitis C and associated conditions. As well as our on-site testing program, we collaborate with many community partners to provide free, anonymous, rapid screenings for HIV and Hepatitis C to those in substance use recovery, the homeless population, individuals enrolled in syringe exchange programs, and youth. In addition, the following services and programs are part of our Community Outreach and Prevention offerings:

Es Mejor Saber® is an award winning HIV prevention campaign created by Southwest CARE Center.

CHOICE Groups  Considering Healthy Options in a Caring Environment

(CHOICE) Groups are four-session, small-group workshops for men and women living with HIV/AIDS. Decision-making and problem-solving skills are developed to help participants make informed and safe decisions about disclosure and to reduce risk behavior.

Partner Services

Partner Services is collaboration between SCC and the NM Department of Health to offer services to persons with HIV or other Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) and their sexual or needle sharing partners. Infected persons are identified, their partners are notified of a possible exposure in a confidential manner, and both the infected person and their partners are provided with treatment, prevention information, and outside referrals as needed.
