Hepatitis C Testing
SCC provides free and confidential rapid hepatitis C testing. Using an antibody test, results are over 98% accurate and available in 20 minutes. For more information on hepatitis C and the test please read our Hepatitis C FAQ.
What is confidential testing?
If you test positive for HIV or hepatitis C, your name and date of birth will be reported to the state and local health departments. This information will only be accessible by public health personnel and will only be used to obtain better estimates of HIV or hepatitis C in New Mexico.
Testing positive for HIV can be scary, but an HIV diagnosis is no longer a death sentence. Although there is no cure for HIV, medical treatment is highly effective, and your prognosis is excellent.
Testing positive for hepatitis C (HCV) antibodies does not necessarily mean that you are infected. However, roughly 80- 85% of people who have hepatitis C antibodies do have chronic hepatitis C. If you have chronic hepatitis C, excellent treatment options are available that are highly likely to cure you of hepatitis C.
Individuals who test positive at SCC for HIV, hepatitis C, or both will receive immediate services and support from our trained testing counselors. Although both rapid tests are extremely reliable, a blood test will be performed, free of charge, and sent to a lab for confirmation. If you test positive you will be eligible for a variety of services provided by our trained case managers and clinical staff at our Specialty Services campus.
